The Blockchain Reallabor and future AI village, located in Hürth near Cologne opened its doors for networking and sharing AI knowledge. AI enthusiasts as well as anyone curious about it, particularly those with background in industry, were invited to meet members from the AI association (KI Bundesverband e.V.) presenting their solutions for problems especially from manufacturing and industrial processes. The event gave the chance to gain insights of AI in industry and talk to experts about the chances and challenges.
The event started with a keynote from Dr Christian Temath, Managing Director at KI.NRW and Matthias Neugebauer, Managing Director at START Hürth presenting the vision of the future AI village, followed by Jörg Bienert, President of KI Bundesverband, introducing Germany’s largest AI entrepreneur network.

AI in customer analytics: how to make more out of customer comments with Text Analytics
While customers are keen to give valuable feedback via numerous channels such as Google reviews, customer satisfaction surveys or even the customer support itself, analysing those feedbacks on a large scale can be heavily time-consuming. Visual Quality control in manufacturing
Mark Keinhörster from codecentric will talk about AI in visual quality control in manufacturing. He will introduce AI-based image processing for the quality inspection of different, usually very hard to tackle surface inspection problems. This procedure does not need any complex data acquisition or data labeling during operation to learn the normal state. Anomaly is detected by deviations from the learned normal state.

This talk will be about general lessons learned from predictive maintenance projects, e.g. what you can (not) expect from predictive maintenance, what is needed to start, which steps to perform in which order and how a realistic road map looks like.
Timo Klerx started his professional career as a Data Scientist in 2016 after his studies in computer science and subsequent PhD in Machine Learning. At paiqo he works as Chief Data Scientist to transfer the latest developments from scientific research into customer projects to bring added value from data. Timo’s special focus is the application of AI to machine and sensor data, especially with the use cases Predictive Maintenance and Predictive Quality.

In his talk, Gregor will explain elevait’s approach to provide AI software products that are generically usable for multiple use cases and customers to ensure cost- and time-efficient solutions for small- or medium-sized enterprises. Interestingly, the combination of ecological and economic sustainability is the key to success.
Gregor Blichmann is the chief technology officer of elevait GmbH & Co. KG. In his daily work, he is consistently engaged in driving elevait’s vision of a sustainable AI product suite. By applying a holistic approach that covers the AI and the software parts equally, elevait’s AI products can be used by their customers out of the box. Starting as one of the first software developers, he is now coordinating the development unit, which has grown to eight highly diverse and self-managed scrum teams.
Sandy Csisko has been working for many years on how companies can process their business processes digitally in a simpler and more meaningful way. Effectiveness and time savings are the most important points in process optimization. Too often she has been annoyed by unnecessarily complicated and analog processes in her everyday life. The fascination, especially for the processing of monotonous tasks by an artificial intelligence, brought Sandy after 3 stations of other SaaS solutions in the area of digitalization of business processes to elevait GmbH & Co. KG.
